Heating Liquids

These self-contained electric heating units are designed to heat a wide range of flowing liquids. Heaters can be installed vertically or horizontally.  Each heating unit consists of a tubular flanged heater mounted in a steel or alloy pressure vessel. The vessel is equipped with inlet and outlet pipe connections, air bleed, drain, mounting lugs, high temperature insulation with protective metal jacketing. Circulation heaters are available in a wide range of kW sizes, construction materials, NEMA ratings, controls and other options.

Circulation Heaters work in much the same way as shell & tube heat exchangers, but with electric heating elements for the tubes. Internal baffle plates direct the flowing liquid back and forth across the electric heater element tubes to increase the temperature of the liquid. Heater elements can be provided in a variety of wattages, materials of construction and heat input densities depending on the operating temperature and the type of fluid to be heated. Electronic temperature controllers can be used to provide extremely accurate temperature control.

Circulation Heaters can be designed for heating a wide range of flowing liquids such as: process water, fuel oils, lubricating oils, hydraulic fluid, heat transfer fluids, chemicals, salts, solvents and organic chemicals.

Proper design of a circulation heater will need to take the following data into consideration:

  • Flow rate and type of material to be heated
  • Temperature and pressure of process fluid
  • Process and installation parameters

The heat systems below provide direct temperature control of liquids.
