Indirect Calendar Roll Heating

Calendar rolls are heavy rolls used to emboss, press, or heat a material. Often two or more rolls are used together for a process. By circulating a heat transfer media such as hot oil through the rolls, the temperature on the outside surface, or face, of the roll can be precisely controlled. HEAT systems can be used to heat up and / or cool down the temperature of the roll and product in contact with the roll.

HEAT provides Indirect Temperature Control Systems for Calendar Rolls

Several different processes can be accomplished using rolls. Two rolls can work together to laminate two materials together. An embossing roll can impress a pattern to textiles, paper, or some other web-type product. Heavy rolls can be used to press and bond materials together, including laminates, plastic parts, and even metals. Rolls are used extensively for paper converting applications like putting a layer of foil on paper (as in a chewing gum wrapper).

Because of the wide variety of uses specific process data should be gathered, including:

  • Size (length and diameter), weight, and material of the roll itself
  • Details of the flow path for the heat transfer media through the roll
  • Information about the material being processed is important; speed, thickness, type of material(s)

Temperature profile required across face of the roll (critical for many applications, a thermal fluid system provides precise control).

  • Heat Transfer Rolls
  • Calendar Rolls
  • Stretching Rolls
  • Annealing Rolls
  • Lamination Rolls
  • Embossing Rolls

The heat systems below provide indirect temperature control of various types of rolls.
